a letter to a friend.

so quick and lovely and fragile even in your strength.

you don't know what you are doing most days, spinning.
you can't seem to ground yourself. you are storms.
waves breaking. trying to fling yourself toward the stars
while you forget the earth beneath you. you never had that
earth. that solid place. trying to find the earth's
pulse, the soft voice of a father.

so you go back to the earth. beneath it. as if it will ease
your grief... keep you from spinning into nothing, from
crashing, drowning in your fierce waters. so you bury yourself.
but i will find you. and the ocean will carry us back. the
boat will rock us like our mother's arms as we come up.
