November 10th, a special day for Marines everywhere
November 10th is a specal day for all Marines. No matter
we are deployed, we come together to celebrate the Marine
Corps 229th birthday.
This year, many of us Marines find ourselves deployed and
engaged in a fight to preserve the freedom won last year
for the people of Iraq.
In recognition of this, I am going to post in these aticles
some of the acts of my fellow Marines currently serving
in Iraq. I do not hear of the heroic acts, but I want to report
to you those that I am told about.
Marines awareness under fire prevents further attacks.
Lance Cpl. Jason Calvert during a rocket attack on his post,
noticed a blue truck that pulled over to the side of the highway
near his listening and observation post. The vehicle slowly
moved forward, stopped and moved again. Calvert reported
the suspicious activity to his higher chain of command.
A quick response force was dispatched. After questioning
the occupants of the vehicle, it was determined that the
two men in the truck were directly involved in the attack
on the Marines. If the truck went unnoticed, they wouldve
fired again, and instead of firing short, they wouldve
fired on target and Marines wouldve died. Good work Lance
Cpl. Jason Calvert.
Happy 229th birthday to the United States Marine Corp.
