Art and Pornography

The debate over art versus pornography is at least as old
as the Greeks. My view is that art is subjective--if you
have an aesthetic response to an image (i.e., it seems "beautiful"
to you, or generates a sense of wonder), it is probably art
for you. Great art is what generates an aesthetic response
in alsmost everyone who views it.

That said, I see no reason why pornography cannot be art.
Of course, one definition of pornography is that it serves
only to appeal to "carnal" desires or to "arouse
prurient interest." But it seems to me that a work
might arouse prurient interest AND evoke an aesthetic
response (i.e., be beautiful).

I've been making photographic art for years, and I
have long been interested in making erotic and even pornographic
art. I'd be interested in hearing from other artists
with similar views or interests.
